Tomas Algarin, "Latin Aura"
In March of 1983, "Latin Aura" made its debut at WCLK 91.9FM Atlanta.
"Latin Aura" is the brainchild of Thomas (Tomas) Algarin; he was the programšs original producer and on-air personality from 1983 to 1988. In 1998, after a ten-year hiatus, Tomas returned to WCLK to once again host and produce "Latin Aura", Atlantašs premiere Latin Jazz, Afro-Cuban Jazz and Salsa music program.
Tomas Algarinšs "Latin Aura " airs Saturdays from 3-6PM at WCLK 91.9FM in Atlanta, and features Tropical Latin "Salsa", Afro-Cuban and Latin Jazz music, interviews, documentaries and lively commentary about the history and development of contemporary tropical Latin and Afro-Cuban music. The program is unique in its bilingual (English/Spanish) format and consequently draws a huge crossover audience of Latinos, Anglos, and African-Americans.
Growing up in New York City, Tomas had the opportunity to live through the Golden Age of Salsa music (60š s-70). His parents taught him about the history, folklore and the music of Puerto Rican music legends Rafael Cortijo, Rafael Hernandez, Tito Rodriguez, and Tito Puente, and Cuban greats Machito and Celia Cruz.
During a broadcast and journalism/public relations career within the Latin Music industry that spans nearly 26 years, Tomas has personally interviewed and produced documentary radio specials about such legendary Latin Jazz and Salsa artists as - Machito, Mario Bauza, Graciela, Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Willie Colon, Ray Barretto, Henry Fiol, Willie Rosario, Ruben Blades, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Johnny Ortiz, Ray Castro, Bobby Matos, Bobby Sanabria, and Celia Cruz among others.
Thomas is a Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing and Communications professional, with degrees in Marketing and Engineering from Kennesaw State University, GA and Stevens Institute of Technology in NJ. He is a native of New York City, New York and currently resides in Atlanta, GA.
